Inter Milan are once again set to finish without Champions League football for next season. As the Italian Serie A heads into the final weekend of the campaign, the final Europa league spot even looks in doubt for Inter Milan. This has been due to a largely frustrating campaign in which the club has been inconsistent.

Much was expected from the club after the appointment of Walter Mazzarri in the summer, but the good start made under the former Napoli manager soon went away in the second half of the season. Handanović, though, has been one of the consistent players and the 29-year-old has been regularly linked with a move away from the club as result of it. The lack of Champions League football next season could only increase the possibility. His latest statements also appear to indicate that he may look elsewhere.

Handanović says that it has been a frustrating season, but is more likely to stay at the San Siro next season.

“I have a contract with Inter, and for me, I’ll stay an Inter player. I don’t look too far ahead though. As long as no one comes in for me, then my thoughts are that I’ll stay here. There are a lot of strong teams in Europe, but I hope that Inter can be back fighting amongst them soon. That’s my hope, and that’s what everyone’s goal is here. I think in the summer this project will truly come of age. I think after over 30 games the League standings don’t lie,” he told Tuttosport.
