The number of breaks in the Serbian football Superliga season is reportedly costing each of the club’s €2 million each for training in Turkey during the close seasons. That is how much clubs from Serbia’s top-tier competition spend on special preparation conditions, all the while they often owe their players monthly wages and contractually agreed instalments during the close season.

To name but one example of the paradox, last month teams who spent ten days training in Turkey paid between €40,000 and €70,000 for the package alone, while the total price varied depending on the length of stay, attractiveness of the training venue, hotel category, airliner costs. An additional blow to the clubs’ finances was the FA’s decision to push the beginning of the spring leg of the season to 5 March due to the snowy and freezing weather across Serbia.
